Quantum Technologies

Quantum Technologies is a priority for R&D Grant Funding across the UK and Europe. Companies in the sector can expect to be eligible for public funding to research and develop innovative solutions in quantum computing hardware and software, quantum sensing and communications, and post-quantum and quantum-safe cybersecurity.

Grant funding for Quantum Technologies

We have been supporting Quantum innovators since 2009 and have won over £100m for founders and researchers solving the sector’s biggest challenges.

The right grant funding at the right time can provide a number of core benefits for quantum projects:

  • Non-dilutive funding secures capital without giving up equity in your business.
  • Supports early-stage, high-risk prototyping and testing before committing further capital.
  • Helps move technology from a working prototype to real-world adoption.
  • Funds cross-border partnerships and international collaborative R&D.
  • De-risks a company’s technology, making it more attractive to private investors.

Funding in the UK

In the UK, government backing for Quantum is substantial, with the National Quantum Strategy committing £2.5 billion to research, innovation and skills over the ten years to 2033. Dedicated schemes include the £670m ten-year funding settlement for the National Quantum Computing Centre, UKRI’s £1 billion+ allocation for quantum technologies through to 2029-30, the £33m Scaling Performance of Quantum Computing Hardware competition, and previous international calls such as the UK-Germany Collaborative Innovation for Quantum Technologies call that often show up.

Funding in the EU

Across Europe, Quantum companies can draw on Horizon Europe, to which the UK has been fully associated since January 2024, including the €1bn Quantum Flagship initiative and Cluster 4 “Digital, Industry and Space” collaborative calls. UK and EU SMEs can also access EUREKA Eurostars, while EU-based businesses can additionally draw on EuroHPC‘s €119m quantum technology calls and QuantERA‘s €53m transnational quantum research funding.
