How FutureAlgae aims to transform CO2 into valuable nutrients
The amazing team at FutureAlgae secured Innovate UK grant funding to deliver a proof-of-concept project for their proprietary micro-algae derived ingredients.

About FutureAlgae
Future By Insects is a is a woman-led UK biotech SME developing sustainable, high-value microalgae-derived ingredients, Its proprietary light-guiding, fluid-dynamic-enhanced cultivation system enables higher pigment yields, lower operational costs, and greater process control.
Together we solve
Venturenomix and FutureAlgae have been working together ever since the leadership team at FutureAlgae decided that non-dilutive funding, like grants, innovation loans and contracts for innovation, should form a strategic part of their funding strategy.
This Innovate UK-funded feasibility project, led by FutureAlgae in collaboration with London South Bank University (LSBU), will demonstrate a low-energy, recyclable process for extracting lutein directly from microalgae biomass found in UK waters.
Successful Outcomes
The team at FutureAlgae can now dedicate their time over the 2 month, fully funded feasibility study, supported by their academic partners at London South Bank University. The resulting proof-of-concept report will be backed by Innovate UK and used to further their technology development and growth plans.
The project outcomes will establish the technical and economic basis for a UK-grown, algae-derived lutein ingredient, reducing dependence on imported marigold supplies and advancing domestic bio-based manufacturing. It will also strengthen the UK’s net-zero and resource-efficiency goals by reducing process use and waste generation.
